Asian Table Tennis Union (ATTU), the sole sanctioning body for the sport with forty three member nations and organiser of the Asian Table Tennis Championships has re-appointed IEC in Sports, the sports media agency owned by Lagardère Unlimited, to distribute the global media rights for its events on an exclusive basis. The agreement takes place with immediate effect.

The deal runs through to the end of 2017, with an option to continue for an additional four years. In addition to media rights distribution, IEC in Sports will provide a range of agency services, including support with TV production and expert commentary. Whilst the ATTU will appoint the host broadcaster for all events, the agency will manage broadcast standards, satellite transmission and digital fan interaction.

The main events are the Asian Championships, the Asian Cup featuring the top eight players in singles format from the four sub-continental zones and the Euro-Asia Challenge; the ”Ryder Cup” style format with the cream of Europe taking on the top Asian talents in a ten-match made-for-television format.

“The 2013 Asian Table Tennis Championships in Pusan reached 273.5 million households with live broadcast in 25 territories.” said Tony Yue, General Secretary of the Asian Table Tennis Union. ”We appreciate IEC building our long-term relationships with major broadcasters such as Al Jazeera and CCTV but also continually finding new broadcasters such as in Mongolia.” added Yue.

”Table Tennis continues to maintain a strong position in the heart of sports fans. We are pleased to see not only the rivalries between Japan, Korea, Singapore, Chinese Taipei and Hong Kong but the emergence of India, Thailand and Iran. It’s clear Asia’s best would like to take on the nation that invented the sport, China.” said Daniel Franck, C.E.O, IEC in Sports.

IEC in Sports has a long involvement with the Asian Table Tennis Championships including Bangkok, Thailand (2003) Jeju Island, Korea (2005), Yangzhou, China (2007) Lucknow, India (2009) Macau (2012) and Pusan, Korea (2013).
